If you came here looking for an exact figure — so many days, so many hours — you deserve an honest answer first: this page cannot give you one, and you should be wary of any page that confidently does. How long it takes to get paid a Melate prize is set by Pronósticos para la Asistencia Pública, the game's official operator, and that timing can change. They are the only source who can tell you, today, how long your wait will actually be. What this guide can offer instead is honesty: why there is no universal number, what genuinely is within your control, and how to avoid wasting a trip by not asking first.
Why there is no single figure we can hand you here
Collecting a lottery prize is not like receiving an instant bank transfer: there is a procedure involved, and that procedure has requirements, channels and timings that somebody has to set and publish. That much is sound logic, and it is the part anyone can work out on their own without a guide. The problem shows up in the next step, the one plenty of guides take without thinking twice: turning that general logic into a table of specific figures, documents and offices. Those details are operational decisions made by the agency that runs the game, and they can change without anyone outside finding out in time. Publishing a number here would be easy to read and easy to share — and it would also be exactly the kind of detail that could be wrong on the day it matters most to you that it be right.
The one thing you should do before you go anywhere
If you have confirmed you won, the most useful thing you can do is not memorize a timeline from an article on the internet — it is to contact Pronósticos para la Asistencia Pública directly, through their official channels, and ask what you specifically need and where you specifically should go. Do that before you leave the house, not after. Showing up without having confirmed the current requirements is what actually costs you a wasted trip, not the absence of a timeline table. For a general sense of how the overall claim process tends to be framed, you can read our guide on how to claim a Melate prize — and from there, confirm any specific detail directly with Pronósticos.
What you actually can control
You don't get to decide how long payment takes, but you do decide how you show up to the process. Before you go anywhere, confirm your ticket is genuinely a winner using the official Melate ticket verification tool, so you don't waste time asking about a prize that doesn't exist. Keep the physical ticket somewhere safe, away from moisture and direct light — it is your proof, and any doubt about its condition is something you can prevent today. And above all, resist the urge to improvise at the counter: a call or inquiry to Pronósticos beforehand beats any assumption.
About taxes: what is actually true
One thing is certain: the figure announced as the prize and the amount you actually receive are not necessarily the same number. That some tax treatment applies to lottery prizes in Mexico is a fact; exactly what that treatment is, how it is applied, and what you personally end up with, is not something this article — or any generic article — should answer for you. For that, the right source is Pronósticos para la Asistencia Pública and, for certainty about your own situation, a qualified accountant or tax advisor. You can see how we approach this topic in more depth in our article on Melate prize taxes.
Bought your ticket online? Same rule applies
If you bought your ticket through a digital channel, any difference in how the prize is collected compared with a physical ticket is, again, something only Pronósticos can confirm as of today — not something we should guess at here. Check our guide on buying Melate online to better understand that purchase method, and confirm the collection steps directly with the operator, whichever channel you used.
Won as part of a group? There's one more question
When several people buy a ticket together, collecting a prize adds a layer of coordination that doesn't exist when you win alone: who presents the ticket, and how does the amount get split? Those are legitimate questions worth settling with your group before anyone walks up to a counter, not after. If you played that way, our guide on playing Melate as a group covers that dynamic in more detail.
Frequently asked questions
So how long does payment actually take?
We don't know, and neither does anyone outside Pronósticos para la Asistencia Pública with certainty. That timing depends on the agency's own operational decisions, which can change, so the only way to get a reliable answer today is to ask them directly.
What documents do I need to bring?
That depends on your situation and can change over time, so we're not going to invent a list here. Confirm with Pronósticos what you need before you leave the house — it's the only way to avoid a wasted trip.
Is there a deadline to claim a prize?
We're not going to guess at that here: whether a deadline exists, and exactly what it is, is information you should confirm directly with Pronósticos para la Asistencia Pública as soon as you confirm you've won. Don't wait to find out.
Are taxes deducted before I get paid?
Tax treatment on prizes does exist, and it's reasonable to expect the amount you receive won't match the announced prize exactly. The exact details of how it's calculated are for Pronósticos to confirm and, for your specific case, a tax advisor — not this article.
Where do I go to collect my prize?
We won't give you a fixed location here: where you should go is defined by the operator, and that definition can change without notice. Confirm with Pronósticos para la Asistencia Pública where you should go for your specific case, before you head anywhere.
